Kenting National Forest Recreation Area is in Hengchun Township, Pingtung County, at an elevation of about 230 to 300 meters, covering roughly 435 hectares. It is Taiwan's first tropical forest plantation, with rich natural ecology and unique geology. Raised coral reef rock is found throughout, forming a rare raised coral reef forest ecosystem, along with diverse tropical plants and wildlife.
Scenic and Ecological Highlights
Raised coral reef terrain: Once an undersea coral reef, tectonic uplift created limestone landforms with stalactites, stalagmites, and other geological features.
Tropical botanical garden: More than 1,200 tropical plant species are cultivated, including coconut, rubber, and medicinal plants—valuable for research and sightseeing.
Abundant wildlife: Formosan macaques, red-bellied tree squirrels, and other mammals are commonly seen; it is also an important stopover for migratory birds.

Observation Tower (Guan Hai Lou): The park's highest point at 27 meters, with views of the Bashi Channel, Pacific Ocean, and Taiwan Strait.

Immortal Cave and Silver Dragon Cave: Natural limestone caves with stalactites and stalagmites—great for exploration and photography.
