Checheng Fu'an Temple in Fu'an Village, Checheng Township, Pingtung County is the largest Tudigong (Earth God) temple in Taiwan and Southeast Asia, dedicated to Fude Zhengshen. Founded around 1654 in the Ming Yongli period, it has over three centuries of history. It began as a "Jingsheng Pavilion" for burning written paper and later became a temple when settlers from Quanzhou enshrined their hometown's Earth God—becoming a major faith center in the Hengchun region.

Grand Palace Architecture

Fu'an Temple follows northern Chinese palace style—a three-courtyard, six-story structure. The main hall's high ceiling gleams with gold; the Earth God statue is draped in gold plaques, said to have been honored by the Qianlong Emperor with a crown and dragon robe.

Historical Artifacts

The temple holds valuable relics, including a stele from Fuk'anggan's suppression of the Lin Shuangwen rebellion in the Qianlong era and a memorial from Liu Ming-deng's handling of the Rover Incident in the Tongzhi era.

Festivals and Events

Around the 2nd day of the 2nd lunar month (Fude Zhengshen's birthday) and the 15th day of the 8th lunar month (enlightenment day), branch temples from across Taiwan come to pay respects, with grand temple fairs and cultural events in the plaza.
