Sizhongxi Hot Springs in Checheng Township, Pingtung County is one of Taiwan's four famous hot spring areas, alongside Beitou, Yangmingshan (Caoshan), and Guanziling. The alkaline sodium bicarbonate spring stays at 50 to 60°C year-round—clear, odorless, and mineral-rich, known to promote circulation and ease muscle stiffness and stress.

History and Geography

Sizhongxi's history dates to the Qing dynasty Tongzhi era, when Shen Baozhen discovered the site while inspecting Taiwan—it was named for crossing the stream four times. Developed as a hot spring district under Japanese rule, it gained fame when Prince Yasuhito and Princess Nobuko honeymooned here. In 1950 the area was renamed "Hot Spring Village" by the government.
