Jiupeng Great Desert (also known as Gangzai Great Desert) is located in Gangzai Village, Manzhou Township, Pingtung County. It is one of Taiwan's rare large-scale dune landscapes, covering more than 200 hectares—often called "Taiwan's Tottori Sand Dunes." Over the years, the Jiupeng and Gangzai streams have carried large amounts of sand and silt to the estuary; under the influence of the northeast monsoon, sand is blown inland and piled up, forming spectacular dunes.
